Alabama Democrats, denounce Roy Moore's latest homophobic comments!

monumento-roy-moore-050413_1_.png“The moral foundation of our country is under attack,” Alabama's Chief Justice Roy Moore said in an interview with The Associated Press. Wednesday he mailed letters to all 50 governors urging them to to amend the U.S. Constitution saying the only union recognized by state and federal governments is “the union of one man and one woman.” Bypassing Congress, he advocates that governors directly convene a National Constitutional Convention to consider his amendment. Roy Moore would impose his will on 17 states and revoke millions of legal marriages.  <learn more>

The Alabama Democratic Party has not publicly responded to Justice Moore's remarks. Therefore, the Alabama Stonewall Democrats urge Chair Nancy Worley to denounce Moore and reiterate the party's platform which states: "We oppose discriminatory federal and state constitutional amendments and other attempts to deny equal protection of the laws to committed same-sex couples who seek the same respect and responsibilities as other married couples."

Democrats, bound by our principles, believe that we are created equal. I affirm the Democratic Platform and urge the Alabama Democratic Party to denounce Roy Moore and his failed policy. Love is precious and should never be denied.

I fail to understand why a state Democratic party would need a petition to do the right thing.

Judge Moore is once again using his position as a judge to be a political activist. This creates a very dangerous ethical situation which calls his ability to serve in his position into question, especially when he could potentially preside over court cases involving this issue.

The fact that he is advocating a constitutional amendment in this case proves that he knows that Alabama’s current discriminatory laws are in fact unconstitutional.

We don’t need bigots holding public office and pushing their oppressive agendas on us.

This is absolutely disgraceful and the Party’s silence only reinforces that bigotry.

I hate to even stay in Alabama because of its politics. I usually drive to Tn which is a little more progressive. The only good thing Alabama has going for it is the SPLC.

Our state should be working on removing the “gay marriage ban” from our own constitution, before we follow the same embarrassing path we once had for interracial marriage.
