Today all eyes turn on Seattle and their crowded and competitive mayoral primary. Among them is openly gay State Sen. Ed Murray, known for leading the referendum campaign to legalize same-sex marriage in Washington.
What distinguishes his campaign is he's engaged and the wedding is five days away. That's right, while campaigning for mayor he's also planning a wedding. The two of them are hitting the campaign trail together and his husband-to-be Michael Shiosaki is even featured in campaign ads.
“Our family believed that we could make a difference. When I realized I was gay I thought I’d never have that chance, but Seattle is a special place,” Murray says in the ad.
Murray faces a crowded primary field on August 6, with the top two vote-getters heading to a general election in November.
